CAMP WORKS
CAMP GETS YOU OUT OF THE EVERYDAY.
It exchanges anxiety for awe. Phones and everyday distractions are set aside and replaced by the wonder of God’s immeasurable creation.
CAMP BREAKS DOWN BARRIERS.
The days are hot, the nights are cold, and dirt ends up everywhere. Rest is limited, sleep is rarely great, and before long, the walls that we’ve built up to keep others out begin to fall. Camp has a remarkable way of softening even the hardest hearts.
CAMP BRINGS PEOPLE TOGETHER.
Young people are shaped by those around them. Camp surrounds them with positive peers and trusted leaders. Through fast-paced, team-focused challenges, they overcome obstacles and build confidence, creating new relationships and forming bonds that last long after camp ends.
GOD DOES THE REST.
Surrounded by the vastness of His creation and separated from familiar comforts and distractions, young people are invited to surrender their hearts to Christ. The result is often a life-changing spiritual experience for everyone involved. The toughness of the wilderness helps prepare the heart; God brings the transformation.
A RETURN HOME
Born on Oʻahu, and raised on the Big Island, Lani grew up in Hawaiʻi’s foster care system. During high school, she was nominated by her social worker for a scholarship that provided a full ride to college. She went on to earn a master’s degree in social work at UH Manoa. Her experiences have given her a deep understanding of the challenges facing Hawaiʻi’s children and a heart to help them thrive.
Shawn was born and raised in California. While attending camp in middle school, an encounter with Christ transformed his life. Years later, while serving in youth ministry, he witnessed that same life-changing impact in his own students at camp. Today, Shawn is a Chick-fil-A Owner/Operator who employs more than 200 young people. He is passionate bout developing leaders and helping them realize their full potential.
Mālama Youth’s story begins at the intersection of Shawn’s passion for the transformative power of camp and Lani’s heart for the children of Hawaiʻi.
